Trauma Work

Somatic Experiencing® Trauma work teaches simple, powerful strategies that mobilise the body's innate self-healing systems - the same physiological processes that mend broken bones and fight disease. Knowledge of trauma's patterns can help ease traumatic reactions as well as potentially prevent symptoms developing after an overwhelming event. It is important to understand that Traumatic symptoms are not caused by the event itself. "They arise when residual energy from the experience is not discharged from the body. This energy remains trapped in the nervous system where it can wreck havoc on our bodies and minds.” Peter Levine 1997.

This also applies to trauma as a result of Medical and Dental treatment. The body does not necessarily recognise the beneficial outcome of surgical operations and other interventions, we can experience shock and stress in our nervous systems after necessary and successful medical treatment. S.E. before and after can often greatly ease these unwelcome symptoms. “Practicing SE can be a significant support not just in your own life but to those around you.” SOS International.

As a psychotherapist I have been working with trauma for many years. I have been working as an Somatic Experiencing Practitioner for the past six years and believe it to be a very powerful tool for the relief and transformation of trauma.
